لا يَعرِفُ الشَوقَ إِلّا مَن يُكابِدُه

لا يَعرِفُ الشَوقَ إِلّا مَن يُكابِدُه

وَلا الصَبابَةَ إِلّا مَن يُعانيها

وَلا الصَبابَةَ إِلّا مَن يُعانيها

No one knows longing except one who endures it,

None knows longing but one who has endured it,

None knows the taste of longing save he who bears the strain,

nor ardent love except one who suffers it.

Nor separation but one who has tasted its sting.

Nor the pangs of passion save he who suffers the pain.
