I am in a state—exalted be
I am in a state, come
I am in a state—exalted be the One,
God, my Lord! What a state!
Oh my Lord, what state is this
God is my Lord—but oh, what a state!
وَلَقَدand indeed أَهزَلتُI have grown emaciated حَتّىuntil
مَحَتِerased الشَمسُthe sun خَياليmy shadow
And I have grown so emaciated that
And I have become so weak
And I have grown so thin and gaunt until
the sun has erased my shadow.
That the sun has erased my shadow
The sun has wiped my shadow from the ground.
مَنwhoever رَأىhas seen شَيئاًsomething محالاًimpossible
فَأَناthen I عَينُthe very essence of المحالِthe impossible
If anyone has seen an impossible thing,
Whoever saw something impossible
Whoever has beheld a thing impossible,
then I am the very embodiment of the impossible.
It is I, the epitome of impossibility
Let him look: I am the Impossible itself.
لَيسَthere is not ليbelonging to me شَيءٌanything إِذاwhen قيwas said (first part)

I own nothing of which, if someone
I have nothing if it is said
I possess nothing, yet if it is asked,
asks, 'Whose is this?' I can say, 'This is mine.'
To whom do I say I have something
"To whom does this belong?" I say, "To me."

And I have become so destitute that
And I became so poor
And I have reached such depths of bankruptcy,
eating me has become lawful for my family.
That I cannot even feed my family
That eating me is lawful for my kin.
فيin حَرcunt أَمmother of الناسِthe people طراًall without exception
مِنof نِساءٍwomen وَرِجالِand men
Into their mother's cunt with all people—
Whether in hot or cold weather
Amidst the stifling heat of all the crowds,
women and men alike!
Be they women or men
Of all the women and of all the men,
لَوif أَرىI were to see فيamong الناسِthe people حُرّاًa noble, generous man
لَمnot تَكُنit would be فيin ذاthis المِثالِform
If I saw a generous man among the people,
If I see among people, a free man
If I could find one noble soul among them,
my state would not be like this.
He would not be in this example
I would not suffer in this wretched form.
