وَصِبا وَحنّ إَلى زُراره
Al-Shamaqmaq has returned to ruin,
The starling has returned bankrupt,
Al-Shamaqmaq has returned to ruin,
and grown lovesick and longed for Zurara,
Yearning for its nest.
Acting the youth, yearning for Zurara.

after it was said he had mended his ways
After it was said, pasture,
After they said he had repented,
and sobered up for the doors of roguery,
It woke up at the doors of the witty.
And sobered up to the ways of roguery.

Of Mocha coffee,
From a wine of Meccan vintage,
its color like a pomegranate blossom.
Its color like embers.
Its color like the pomegranate bloom.

تَدَعُ الحَليمَ بِلا نُهى
حَيرانbewildered ليسَthere is not بِهِin him أَحارهa reply
حَيران ليسَ بِهِ أَحاره
It leaves the levelheaded man without reason,
It leaves the forbearing without prohibition,
It leaves the prudent man devoid of sense,
bewildered, unable to reply.
Perplexed, without comprehension.
Bewildered, unable to find his way.

And many a time he sang over it:
And it may have sung about it,
And often, he sang over the cup:
"O my neighbor-woman, I was no neighbor!"
Oh neighbor, I was not a neighbor.
'O neighbor, what a neighbor I was!'

and inherited noble virtues from Salih;
And inherited good traits,
Inheriting noble deeds, a righteous heir,
and from him come generosity and prosperity.
As well as construction and generosity.
From whom flow generosity and prosperity.

Indeed, I saw you in a dream;
I saw you in a dream,
I saw you appearing in my dream,
your visit held promise for me.
And you promised me a visit.
Promising me a visit of your grace.

So I set out toward you in the morning with purpose,
So I came to you seeking,
So I set out early, seeking you,
and you must make the interpretation come true.
And you confirm the expression.
And yours is the fulfilling of the vision.

Indeed, there came to me, with generosity
The dew brought me
For it brought me news of dew-like bounty,
and bounty from you, glad tidings.
Your generosity and good news.
And generosity from you as glad tidings.

I left my dependents
My family—I have left them behind;
in the afternoon, their bread mere pressings,
At noon, their food dried bread,
By afternoon, their bread is dry dregs,

And their drink donkey urine,
Their drink is the urine of a he-donkey,
mixed with a she-donkey's urine.
Mixed with donkey urine.
Mixed with the urine of a she-donkey.

They cried out, so I said, "Be patient,
They clamored so I said, be patient,
They wailed aloud; I said, 'Have patience,'
for success goes hand in hand with patient endurance,
For success comes with patience.
'For success is yoked to perseverance,'

'Brother of abundance and fresh bloom.'

Except your praise as merchandise.
No merchandise but your praise.
