صَلابَةُ الوَجهِ سِلاحُ الفَتى

صَلابَةُ الوَجهِ سِلاحُ الفَتى

وَرقةُ الوَجهِ مِنِ الحِرفَةِ

وَرقةُ الوَجهِ مِنِ الحِرفَةِ

A brazen face is a young man's weapon,

The hardness of face is a youth's weapon

Boldness of face is the weapon of the youth,

and a bashful face is a mark of poverty.

And tenderness of face is from expertise

While a modest countenance spells deprivation's truth.

مِن كانَ صَلباً وَجهُهُ مُحكَماً

مِن كانَ صَلباً وَجهُهُ مُحكَماً

فَأَنتَ مِنهُ الدَهرُ في طُرفَةِ

فَأَنتَ مِنهُ الدَهرُ في طُرفَةِ

Whoever has a hard, firmly set face—

Whoever's face is hard and steadfast

He whose face is hardened, resolute, and tight,

then you are forever amused by him.

You will have a long life because of him

Remains to you, forever, a rare delight.
