دَع عَنكَ لَومي يا عَذولُ

دَع عَنكَ لَومي يا عَذولُ

فَلَستُ أَفهَمُ ما تَقولُ

Have done with blaming me, O censor;

Leave off blaming me, O reproacher,

for I do not understand what you say.

إِنَّ الرّغيفَ مُحَبَّبٌ

إِنَّ الرّغيفَ مُحَبَّبٌ

في الناسِ مَطلَبُهُ جَميلُ

في الناسِ مَطلَبُهُ جَميلُ

Indeed, the loaf of bread is beloved;

Indeed, the loaf is well loved

among people, the desire for it is fair.

among people; seeking it is a fine thing.

لا سِيَّما إِن كانَ وَس

لا سِيَّما إِن كانَ وَس

طَ حُروفِهِ عِرقٌ نَبيلُ

طَ حُروفِهِ عِرقٌ نَبيلُ

Especially if, with-

-in its letters, there is noble blood,

dle of its edges a choice meaty bone.

وَثَلاثَةٌ مِن بَعدِهِ

وَثَلاثَةٌ مِن بَعدِهِ

يُشفي فُؤادي وَالغَليلُ

يُشفي فُؤادي وَالغَليلُ

and three more come after it—

And three after it

that heals my heart and quenches its burning need.

soothe my heart and quench my burning thirst.
