فَلِيfor I have بَينَamong هاتيكَthose الرُبوعِabodes شُجونُsorrows
فَلِي بَينَ هاتيكَ الرُبوعِ شُجونُ
May a downpour water a remembered dwelling in Iliya;
A refuge drew water from Elya's springs
For I have sorrows among those abodes.
So my sorrows amidst those meadows prolong
وَلاand not زالَcease خَفّاقُfluttering النَسيمِthe breeze بربعِهِwithin its grounds

يطيفُ فَإِن القَلبَ فيهِ رهينُ
And may the fluttering breeze within its grounds never cease
The breeze still fluttering around its expanse
To circle, for my heart is captive there.
For the heart therein remains captive

Abodes of loved ones: whenever their memory comes to mind,
Abodes of loved ones, when their mention passes
Tears water them, though their homes are far away.
Their memory from afar pours sorrow

They stayed while we departed, and my heart
Remains—and does a close friend keep faith with love?
Remains with them, can affection be herded?

O dwellers of the Holy House, do you think
O dwellers of the sacred house, do you see
That time, so grudging toward me, will grant you to me?
Fate being stingy while time with you prolongs?
سَقىmay … water اللَهُGod هاتيكَthose الدِيارَdwellings وَأَهلَهاand their people

May God water those dwellings and their people
May God water those abodes and its people
With the rain-cloud of a bond still fresh, pouring steadily;
With clouds of nostalgia that are plentiful
وَخَصّand may He especially favor جَناباًan abode فيهِin which رُكنُa pillar of هِدايَةٍguidance

لَهُ الفَضلُ خِدنٌ وَالوَفاءُ قَرينُ
And favor especially an abode that holds a pillar of guidance,
And bless a pillar wherein lies guidance
Whose intimate is excellence, and whose companion is loyalty:
To him belong grace, faithfulness his friend

The lamp of meanings, the people's mainstay, and the one
The lantern of meaning, leader of all
Before whom all difficulties grow easy.
To him all perplexities seem trivial

God's peace be upon you as long as a lover yearns,
Upon you is God's peace for as long as a lover pants
His sighing and yearning ever redoubling.
His sighs and yearning multiply twofold

For, by God, I did not leave you out of hatred for you;
By God, I never parted from you lightly
But whatever is decreed will come to pass.
But that which is destined shall come to be
