وحيث انشرح الصدر

وحيث انشرح الصدر

Where thought stood astonished,

Where the mind is astonished,

and where the breast opened in joy,

And where the chest is relieved,

مقام باهر فيه

مقام باهر فيه

ضريح ضمنه البحر

ضريح ضمنه البحر

stands a dazzling shrine; within it

Is a sublime place,

a tomb that holds the sea.

Wherein lies the sea's tomb.

فقيد حاضر العزم

فقيد حاضر العزم

وقد يفتقد البدر

وقد يفتقد البدر

A departed one, yet present in resolve,

The absent leader of determination,

and the full moon, too, may be absent.

May the full moon be missed.

امام القوم من اضحى

امام القوم من اضحى

له في الاوليا الامر

له في الاوليا الامر

The people's imam, who came to hold

The imam of the people has become,

authority among the saints.

For him among the saints is the command.

سليل المرتضى الغوث ال

سليل المرتضى الغوث ال

رفاعي المرشد الذخر

رفاعي المرشد الذخر

Scion of al-Murtada, the spiritual succor,

The grandson of Al-Murtada, the succor,

al-Rifa‘i, the guide, the treasure.

Not Rafa'i, the guided treasure.

تجلى منه للاقرا

تجلى منه للاقرا

ن شأن ما به نكر

ن شأن ما به نكر

From him shone forth to his peers

His stature was revealed to the cognizant,

a greatness beyond reproach.

A status with which he is unparalleled.

تدلى راحة المختا

تدلى راحة المختا

ر مذ شق لها القبر

ر مذ شق لها القبر

The Chosen One's palm reached downward

The hand of the Chosen One extended,

when the grave was split open for it.

Since the grave was split open for him.

وفاح المسك والعطر

وفاح المسك والعطر

ولاح الفتح والبشر

ولاح الفتح والبشر

And musk and perfume wafted,

Musk and fragrance diffused,

and victory and gladness shone forth.

Victory and good tidings shone.

وكم منها اشارات

وكم منها اشارات

لديها يخجل الفجر

لديها يخجل الفجر

And how many signs came from it,

How many signs it has,

before which the dawn blushes!

Before which dawn is ashamed.

وكم من صولة يخ

وكم من صولة يخ

مد اجلالا لها الجمر

مد اجلالا لها الجمر

And how many an onslaught,

How many sublimities it lowers,

before which embers die out in reverence!

For which embers are honored.

وكم من رفعة ين

وكم من رفعة ين

حط عن مرقاتها النسر

حط عن مرقاتها النسر

And how many an exalted height,

How much loftiness it brings down,

below whose stairway the eagle sinks!

Below which the eagle cannot soar.

فيا لله من غوث

فيا لله من غوث

به للامة الفخر

به للامة الفخر

So, O God, what a spiritual succor,

What a succor for the nation is its pride,

through whom the community finds glory!

From his morals, the purity of chest and patience.

ومن اخلاقه الغر

ومن اخلاقه الغر

صفاء الصدر والصبر

صفاء الصدر والصبر

And among his radiant virtues

And humbling the self, so that

are purity of heart and patience,

Greatness cannot rival its breadth.

وذل النفس حتى لا

وذل النفس حتى لا

يداني رحبها الكبر

يداني رحبها الكبر

and humility of soul, so that no

And empowerment like the eye of Al-Mustafa,

pride approaches its wide expanse;

Nothing mars it like sugar.

وتمكين كحال المص

وتمكين كحال المص

طفى ما شابه السكر

طفى ما شابه السكر

and spiritual steadiness like the state of al-Mustafa,

And a deed far from words,

never tainted by ecstatic intoxication;

And words all remembrance.

وفعل جل عن قول

وفعل جل عن قول

وقول كله ذكر

وقول كله ذكر

and action exalted above speech,

And remembrance all reflection,

and speech that is wholly remembrance,

And reflection all gratitude.

وذكر كله فكر

وذكر كله فكر

وفكر كله شكر

وفكر كله شكر

and remembrance that is wholly reflection,

He rested in the forest of al-‘Irfan,

and reflection that is wholly gratitude.

A lion guarded by victory.

ثوى في غابة العرفا

ثوى في غابة العرفا

ن ليثاً حفه النصر

ن ليثاً حفه النصر

He dwelt in the forest of gnosis,

And ruled the saints a sultan,

a lion whom victory surrounded.

The treasure of his poverty's glory.

وساد الاوليا سلطا

وساد الاوليا سلطا

ن مجد كنزه الفقر

ن مجد كنزه الفقر

And he ruled the saints, a sultan

For him has been inscribed on the tablet of The Most High,

of glory whose treasure was poverty.

Before all, the first line.

له قد خط في لوح ال

له قد خط في لوح ال

علا قبل الاولى السطر

علا قبل الاولى السطر

For him was inscribed upon the tablet of

And the hymn of the Most High for him resounded,

exaltation, before the first life, a line.

And the matter became famous.

وضجت نوبة العليا

وضجت نوبة العليا

له واشتهر الامر

له واشتهر الامر

And the fanfare of high honor resounded

And of his traces in existence appeared,

for him, and the matter became renowned.

Blossoming stars.

ومن آثاره في الكو

ومن آثاره في الكو

ن لاحت انجم زهر

ن لاحت انجم زهر

And from his legacy within the universe

So reside by his door O exalted one,

radiant stars shone forth.

Even if ages perplex you.

فلازم بابه المرفو

فلازم بابه المرفو

ع ان حار بك الدهر

ع ان حار بك الدهر

So cling to his exalted door,

And heal a soul, beware

if time confounds you.

That adversity and harm see you.

وطب نفسا فحاشا ان

وطب نفسا فحاشا ان

يراك الضيم والضير

يراك الضيم والضير

And be at ease in soul, for never shall

And sleep in security, for the Master,

oppression and harm behold you.

For him in Ahmad is mystery.

ونم بالامن فالمولى

ونم بالامن فالمولى

له في احمد سر

له في احمد سر

And sleep in safety, for the Lord

has a secret in Ahmad.
