Were it not for the solace my heart finds when I remember you,
I would have fulfilled no desires in all my days.

And indeed my heart, were it not for remembering your dwelling
and laying my palm upon it, would have gone mad or flown away [wording uncertain].
لوif قربواthey brought near النارthe fire منto قلبيmy heart لأحرقهاit would burn it
وزادهاand increased it منfrom لهيبthe blaze الوجدpassionate longing مقداراa measure
Were they to bring fire near my heart, my heart would burn it up,
and add to it a measure of longing’s blaze.
فهلthen, have...? رأيتyou seen فؤاداًa heart أينwhere منهcompared with it لظىblazing fire
وهلand have...? سمعتyou heard بقلبof a heart أحرقburned الناراthe fire
Then have you seen a heart—what is blazing fire compared with it?
And have you heard of a heart that burned fire itself?
