صاغ الاكابر بالنظام علومهم

وتنوعت بشؤُنها الافهام

وتنوعت بشؤُنها الافهام

The great masters cast their knowledge into verse;

The great ones structured their sciences with order

and understandings varied concerning its matters.

And minds diversified according to their concerns

هذا يهيمه الحطيم بنكة

هذا يهيمه الحطيم بنكة

منها لذي غلط يراد حطام

منها لذي غلط يراد حطام

This one is enraptured by al-Hatim [final word unclear as written];

One is preoccupied with collecting firewood

from it, for one in error, debris is intended.

Seeking from it destruction for the one in error

كل يؤول مثل ما يبدوله

كل يؤول مثل ما يبدوله

والخف خف والسنام سنام

والخف خف والسنام سنام

Each interprets according to what appears to him;

Each concludes like what occurs to him

and the camel’s foot is a camel’s foot, and the hump is a hump.

Feathers remain feathers and a spear remains a spear
