  2. خليفة الله على خلقه

    مظهر معني انما يعمر

    God's caliph over His creation,

    embodying the meaning of 'Only ... maintain ...',

  3. اعلى منار الحق يوم ابتنى

    رحابه غوث الورى الاكبر

    raised the beacon of truth the day he built

    the precincts of humankind's greatest succor,

  4. شبل الحسين ابن الرفاعي من

    أسراره في الكون لا تنكر

    al-Husayn's lion-cub, son of al-Rifa‘i, whose

    mysteries in the universe are undeniable—

  5. احمد من قد خصه جده

    براحة انوارها تزهر

    Ahmad, whom his grandfather had singled out

    with a palm whose lights shine.

  6. احي به الحي مليك له

    الوية النصر مدى تنشر

    A king revived the quarter through him; his

    banners of victory are forever unfurled.

  7. ابو الهدى قال بتاريخه

    حي الرفاعي مشرق انور

    Abu al-Huda said in its chronogram:

    'Al-Rifa‘i's quarter is radiant, most luminous.'
