O heart, were it not for al-Liwa and those who dwell there,

O heart, were it not for the bend and those who dwell within,

you would not have forsaken your bond with the neighbors at Dhu Salam,

You would not have strayed from the pact of neighbors in peace

ولا رقصت لأخبار النقا طربا

ولا رقصت لأخبار النقا طربا

ولا أرقت لذكر البان والعلم

ولا أرقت لذكر البان والعلم

nor danced for joy at tidings of al-Naqa,

Nor danced joyfully to the news brought by messengers

nor lain sleepless at the mention of the ban trees and al-Alam.

Nor lost sleep remembering the pasture and the old settlement
