اذا المرء كان البطن والفرج همه

اذا المرء كان البطن والفرج همه

ولم يسع في نيل العلى والمكارم

ولم يسع في نيل العلى والمكارم

If a man's concern is his belly and his private parts,

If a man's only concerns are his stomach and his private parts

And he does not strive to attain eminence and noble virtues,

And he does not strive for lofty matters and virtues

فلا تصحبنه بل ولا تخش فقده

فلا تصحبنه بل ولا تخش فقده

فما هو الا من عداد البهائم

فما هو الا من عداد البهائم

Then do not keep his company; indeed, do not even fear losing him,

Then do not be his companion, no, do not even wish him well

For he is nothing but one of the beasts.

For he is nothing but a beast walking on two legs
