I was patient with you out of forbearance and gentleness.

And one day forbearing men grow angry.

And when you saw abundant kindness from me,

you were ungrateful—and such is the vile deceiver.

One of base stock is ungrateful for every kindness,

and the gallant, noble man is grateful for some of it.

We have seen no religion in the world of existence

in which judgment is established by fancies.

    فلئام الورى خصوم الكرام

    So turn your face away from the vile and leave them;

for the vile among humankind are enemies of the noble.

Indeed, the slander of the vile is the barking of dogs,

and the barking of dogs is not like speech.

Their honor is their speech; and whoever is one of them,

leave him to time and the days.

Everyone of high standing regards the fool as lowly,

and such is the ruling of Islamic law.
