1. تمتع من نسيم بقاع سلع

    ونشر المسك من تلك الرياض

    Delight in the breeze of Salʿ’s lands,

    And the fragrance of musk from those gardens.

  2. وخذ بمفاوز الغزلان منها

    ومنقلب الجداول في الحياض

    And take to the gazelles’ desert expanses there,

    And the winding courses of streams within the pools.

  3. وداو الداء ان الفيت ذوقا

    بتلك الاعين السود المراض

    And cure the malady, if you find delight,

    With those black, languishing eyes.

  4. وحسبك ان تريض بسفح روض

    فسيح الدوح مرتص الغياض

    And it is enough for you to stroll at a garden’s foot,

    With spreading great trees and densely packed thickets.

  5. ورب قصير وقت قد مضى لي

    وهل وقت لخلق غير ماض

    And many a brief moment has passed for me—

    And does any creature’s time ever fail to pass?

  6. انست به بحب لي نجيب

    ودهري مسعف والحب راضي

    I found joy in it with a noble beloved of mine,

    While my fortune was kind and the beloved content.

  7. فانساني الفراق لذيذ انسي

    وصادم جمعتي بالانفضاض

    So parting made me forget my sweet companionship,

    And assailed my gathering with dispersal.

  8. عجبت اذا لايام تقضت

    تقول رقاق اغصان غضاض

    I marveled, then, at days gone by—

    You would call them slender, tender branches.

  9. واحكام القدير لها نفوذ

    وليس على القدير من اعتراض

    And the Almighty’s decrees hold sway,

    And there is no objection against the Almighty.
