Bring your news, O lightning of the sanctuary.

Bring, O lightning of yearning, your news,

Be in accord with your traces within our hearts.

And imprint your traces in our hearts,

وتألق منا بارواح قوم

كلهم قال ليتني كنت جارك

كلهم قال ليتني كنت جارك

And shine forth from us through the souls of a people,

And shine through the souls of a people,

All of whom said, 'Would that I were your neighbor!'

All of whom say, "Would that I were your neighbor!"

انت يا بارق الحمى فيك سر

انت يا بارق الحمى فيك سر

كم طوى في اسرارنا اسرارك

كم طوى في اسرارنا اسرارك

You, O lightning of the sanctuary, hold a secret:

You, O lightning of yearning, in you is a secret,

How often it has enfolded your secrets within our secrets!

How you have folded many secrets within our secrets.

في بروج العلى تلوح ولكن

في بروج العلى تلوح ولكن

كل قلب لنا جعلناه دارك

كل قلب لنا جعلناه دارك

You gleam in the towers on high, and yet

You flash in the celestial constellations, but

Every heart of ours we have made your dwelling.

We have made each of our hearts your abode.

انت حاكيت نور من فيه همنا

انت حاكيت نور من فيه همنا

مذ اعارت انواره انوارك

مذ اعارت انواره انوارك

You mirrored the light of the one in whom we were lost in love,

You told of the light of the one for whom we yearn,

Since his lights lent yours their radiance.

Since his lights have lent radiance to your lights.

فاحك بالله يا بويرق عنه

فاحك بالله يا بويرق عنه

بعض آي اعلى الاله منارك

بعض آي اعلى الاله منارك

So, by God, O little lightning, tell of him

So speak, by God, O fluttering lightning, about him -

Some signs—may God exalt your beacon!

Some of the signs of the Exalted God, your minarets.

وبنا عن يا حويدي المطايا

وبنا عن يا حويدي المطايا

وتلطف وانشد لنا اشعارك

وتلطف وانشد لنا اشعارك

And appear before us, O little driver of the riding camels,

And describe for us, O horseman of the desert, the mounts,

And be gentle, and recite your poems to us.

Be gentle, and recite poetry for us.

وصف الحب للمحبين وانشر

وصف الحب للمحبين وانشر

طي وجد وافرغ اليهم نارك

طي وجد وافرغ اليهم نارك

And describe love to the lovers, and unfold

Describe love for the lovers, and spread

The folds of ecstasy, and pour out your fire to them.

Ecstasy, passion, and pour your fire upon them.

واطر عيسهم الى حي حب

واطر عيسهم الى حي حب

قد تعالى خلافه وتبارك

قد تعالى خلافه وتبارك

And send their pale camels flying to the encampment of a beloved,

Lead their thoughts to the Living, the Beloved,

Whose difference is indeed exalted and blessed.

Exalted and Blessed is He beyond likeness.

جمع الحسن والملاحة طرا

جمع الحسن والملاحة طرا

وبه الله أي وعلياه بارك

وبه الله أي وعلياه بارك

He gathered beauty and charm in their entirety,

Gather beauty and charm in a poem,

And through him God—yes, by His exaltedness—bestowed blessing.

And through it, by God, ascend and be blessed.

يا قليب المحب ذب فيه وجدا

يا قليب المحب ذب فيه وجدا

ثم علم اهل الهوى اطوارك

ثم علم اهل الهوى اطوارك

O lover's little heart, melt in him in ecstasy,

O heart of a lover, melt with passion there,

Then teach the people of passionate love your states.

Then teach the people of desire your ways.
