لبابto the gate of ابنson of الوليدal-Walid شكوتI complained of خصميmy adversary
لباب ابن الوليد شكوت خصمي
وخالدand Khalid لاno خفاconcealment سيفsword of الرسولthe Messenger
وخالد لا خفا سيف الرسول
At Ibn al-Walid’s door, I complained of my adversary;
To Ibn al-Walid's gate I brought my complaint against my foe.
and Khalid—there is no hiding it—is the Messenger’s sword.
And Khalid, as is well known, is the Messenger's sword.
وسيفand the Sword of اللَهGod صحis established as sound بذاconcerning this حديثa tradition
وسيف اللَه صح بذا حديث
أخذناهwe received it عنfrom الصحبthe Companions الفحولthe eminent
أخذناه عن الصحب الفحول
That he is the Sword of God is confirmed by a sound report
And the Sword of God—a sound tradition confirms this.
which we received from the stalwart Companions.
We received it from the eminent Companions.
فهذاso this السيفsword قاطعsevers هامheads باغa transgressor
فهذا السيف قاطع هام باغ
بماضيwith the keen حدedge of سطوتهits might الصقيلthe polished
بماضي حد سطوته الصقيل
This sword cleaves the heads of every aggressor
So this sword severs the heads of transgressors
with the keen, polished edge of his might.
With the keen, polished edge of its might.
ألوذI seek refuge بفضلهin his grace وأرومand I seek نصريmy victory
ألوذ بفضله وأروم نصري
وأرجوand I hope منكfrom you للعلياto the heights وصوليmy attainment
وأرجو منك للعليا وصولي
I seek refuge in his bounty and pursue my victory,
I take refuge in his grace and seek victory for myself.
and through you I hope to reach the heights.
And I look to you in hope of reaching the heights.
وإنيand indeed I داخلentering بصفاءwith purity of قلبheart
وإني داخل بصفاء قلب
عليهinto his presence وهوand he is غياثsuccor to الدخيلthe seeker of refuge
عليه وهو غياث الدخيل
Indeed, I enter his presence with a pure heart;
And with purity of heart I enter
he is the rescuer of whoever enters seeking shelter.
Into his presence, and he is the refuge-seeker's succor.
ففيso in حسبيmy ancestral honor وفيand in نسبيmy lineage إليهto him
ففي حسبي وفي نسبي إليه
أتيتI have come ومقصديand my aim حسنgraciousness of القبولacceptance
أتيت ومقصدي حسن القبول
Trusting in my standing and in the lineage that binds me to him,
So, in matters of my honor and lineage, to him
I have come, seeking gracious acceptance.
I have come, and my aim is a gracious welcome.
وبالإلحاقand concerning affiliation ليI have عتبa reproach عليهagainst him
وبالإلحاق لي عتب عليه
إذاwhen انتسبtrace their descent الفروعthe branches إلىto الأصولthe roots
إذا انتسب الفروع إلى الأصول
Yet over my being acknowledged as kin, I have a reproach to make of him,
And concerning affiliation, I have a reproach against him,
when branches trace their lineage back to roots.
When the branches trace their descent to the roots.
