وما ذكر وصل الحب يعنى لريبة

وما ذكر وصل الحب يعنى لريبة

ولكنه قول يشير إلى القرب

And mention of union with the beloved has no dubious intent;

Remembrance of a love reunion does not imply doubt,

but it is a saying that points to nearness.

But a saying that hints at nearness,

تشاهده عيني قريبا فتنجلي

تشاهده عيني قريبا فتنجلي

بنور وان كان الموسد في القلب

بنور وان كان الموسد في القلب

My eye beholds him close and so grows radiant

My eyes soon see him clearly, shining

with light, though he lies pillowed in the heart.

With light, though he now lies in my heart,

فاذكر وصلا حكمه حكم غيبة

فاذكر وصلا حكمه حكم غيبة

بلذة ذاك القرب من طلعة الحب

بلذة ذاك القرب من طلعة الحب

So I speak of a union whose state is that of absence,

So remember a union whose rule is that of parting

with the delight of that nearness to the beloved’s countenance.

With the pleasure of that nearness from the dawn of love.
