And by Him who fashioned this blackness

By the truth of the one who created this speech

in your dark hair, while you are the firmament,

With your shining poetry, and you are the star

وقد جلا وجهك بالنور من

شمس الضحى وبالسنا جللك

شمس الضحى وبالسنا جللك

and who lit your face with light from

Your face has been illuminated with the light

the forenoon sun and clothed you in radiance:

Of the morning sun, and adorned with beauty

ما غبت عن قلبي وان غبت عن

عيني وهذا القلب والعين لك

عيني وهذا القلب والعين لك

you have never been absent from my heart, even if absent from

You did not disappear from my heart though you disappeared from

my eyes; this heart and these eyes are yours.

My eyes, and this heart and eyes belong to you

يا طلعة البدر ويا كوكب ال

حسن تعالى شأن من اكملك

حسن تعالى شأن من اكملك

O full-moon countenance, O star of

O rising moon, O star of beauty

beauty—exalted is the majesty of Him who perfected you!

Come, one whose glory is perfected

ابشر انت بحق الهوى

ابشر انت بحق الهوى

ام ريم قفر شارد ام ملك

ام ريم قفر شارد ام ملك

Are you human, by the sanctity of love,

Rejoice, you have the right to love

or a wandering gazelle of the wilderness, or an angel?

O Rim, a barren desert or a kingdom?

سكنت في القلب ورغما له

سكنت في القلب ورغما له

شخصك قلبي يا حبيبي ملك

شخصك قلبي يا حبيبي ملك

You settled in the heart, and against its will,

You reside in my heart, and despite its resistance

your form, my beloved, possessed my heart.

My heart, my beloved, you rule

بك الجمال انبلجت شمسه

تبارك الله فما اجملك

Through you, beauty's sun shone forth.
