    عبقت القيعان بالاخضرار

    And a garden—its flowers waft fragrance;

    The lowlands grew fragrant with verdure.

    Musky in scent, and its edges

    The beholder takes for the fringe of cheek-down.

    My heart found delight there, and my time grew serene,

    And the nightingale’s voice stirred sorrows.

    So I said, overwhelmed by love’s cares,

    While the lofty morning star shone bright:

    By God, O dawn, pass into the darkness,

    And you, O night, pass into the day.
