Alas for Jaghir's injustice!
Oh, the injustice of the oppressor
He wronged me by keeping his distance.
Who was once my neighbor

وللأباعد دارا
He hid from me coyly,
He hid his affection from me
and turned toward strangers.
And built his home far away

He dwelt in the house of my heart,
He resided in my heart
and turned away from my path.
Yet distanced himself from my path

He granted refuge to someone other than me,

When shall I win my revenge
When will I avenge

My raging heart?

And extinguish the burning embers

That set my soul aflame

Thus the bird of my heart, for him,
So too my heart's bird
took wing out of longing.
In anguish took flight

Indeed, the lover is deeply enamored,
Though the lover is distraught
even if he blazes into fire.
And his passion rages like fire

And haughtiness belongs to the beloved,
The beloved is exalted
even though we have known him as a neighbor.
Though once he was but a neighbor
