خبر طوى شقق البقاع فاخبرا

فجرى له ماء المدامع احمرا

A report traversed the far-flung lands and brought its tidings;

And at its news the water of tears flowed red.

يروي احاديث الاحبة مرسلا

منا العيون لها سحابا ممطرا

It recounts tales of loved ones, setting loose

Our eyes for those tales as a rain-pouring cloud.

كانت لنا في الحي بعد بقية

منها خيال وجوه من درجوانرى

There was still a remnant left to us within the clan;

In her we saw the likeness of the faces of those who had passed on.

طويت والحقها الزمان بمن مضوا

وتوارت الشمس المنيرة في الثرى

She was folded away, and time joined her to those who had gone,

And the radiant sun vanished into the soil.

والهف قلبي فالتي قد ازمعت

تركت لنا صفو القلوب مكدرا

Alas for my heart! She who resolved to depart

Left the clarity of our hearts clouded.

رحلت بانواع الصلاح مضيئة

وبصدق قلب طاهر لن ينكرا

She departed, radiant with every form of righteousness,

And with the sincerity of a pure heart that none could deny,

وبحسن اخلاق يزينها التقى

نسجت صحائفها ربيعا اخضرا

And with fine virtues adorned by piety;

She wove her pages into a verdant spring.

اخت تكاد تكون اما برة

فمن الحنان الله طينتها برى

A sister who was almost a loving mother;

For God fashioned her clay from tenderness.

عكفت بمحراب العبادة في الدجى

لله تخشع لم تذق طعم الكرى

She kept to the prayer-niche of worship in the darkness,

Humble before God, never tasting sleep.

ومضت لبيت الله ثم تشرفت

برحاب طه المصطفى سر الورى

And she went to the House of God, then was honored

In the precincts of Taha, the Chosen One, the secret of creation.

وتمسكت بالله جل جلاله

والعزم منها بالتقى لن يفترا

And she held fast to God—exalted is His majesty—

And her resolve in piety would never flag,

حتى قضت مرضية مبرورة

وسرت وحينها يحمد القوم السرى

Until she passed away, well-pleasing and blessed.

She journeyed by night—and then people praise the night journey.

شبت بمهد الدين والارشاد في

بيت النبوة بين ىساد الشرى

She grew up in the cradle of religion and spiritual guidance, in

The house of prophethood, among the lions of al-Shara.

وتمحضت بخلالهم وخصالهم

فبدت من الكنز المطلسم جوهرا

And she was wholly imbued with their qualities and virtues,

Thus appearing as a jewel from the talisman-sealed treasure.

اعلى ابو البركات ركن فخارها

فسمت به بين الحرائر مظهرا

Abu al-Barakat raised the pillar of her glory,

So through him she rose in bearing among freeborn women.

والسيد الصياد اترع سرها

نوراً وكل الصيد في جوف الفرا

And Sayyid al-Sayyad filled her innermost self

With light—and all game is in the belly of the wild ass.

يا خالدية والحقوق اجلها

رحم يصان فلا يباع ويشترى

O Khalidiyya, the greatest of all rights

Is kinship, safeguarded—not bought and sold.

لك في الفؤاد منصة من طيها

حبل بسر السر منعقد العرا

You have a dais in my heart, within whose folds lies

A cord whose loops are knotted by the secret of the secret.

بالله ان ابصرت قومك والحمى

رحب الرحاب يفوح مسكا اذفرا

By God, if you behold your people and the sanctuary,

Spacious in its precincts, wafting musk of piercing fragrance,

قولي لهم والله آنا ما جرى

ذكر لهم الاله دمعي جرى

Tell them: 'By God, for me, never has

Mention of them arisen without my tears flowing for it.'

وعليك اختاه السلام ولم يزل

لك من فنون البر يكتسب اسطرا

And peace be upon you, sister; may it never cease

To gather for you lines of manifold goodness.

والله يوليك الرضا والعز في

دار النعيم بانعم لن تحصرا

And may God grant you His approval and honor in

The abode of bliss, with blessings that can never be numbered.

ونعمت في ظل البتول مع الالى

آل الرسول ودام رحبك نيرا

And may you live in bliss beneath al-Batul's shade, with those who are

The Messenger's family; may your dwelling remain radiant.
