The steed carried me across the Euphrates and the Tigris,

My steed carried me across Euphrates and Tigris

And reached your generosity, but knows no ford.

And came to call you, but found no way across

فالان يرجع يا علي القهقرى

لم يستطع متقدماً فتأخرا

So now, O Ali, it turns backward;

So now turn back, O Ali, the way you came

Unable to advance, it retreated.

For going forward proved impossible, go back

وأعيذها من أن يعارض مثلها

وأعيذها من أن يعارض مثلها

باد هواك صبرت أم لم تصبرا

باد هواك صبرت أم لم تصبرا

And I shield her, lest her like be rivaled by

And I implore, may none attempt to match it

“Your love has perished, whether you endure patiently or not.”

قالت وقد بعث الملوك بمهرها
