بمن لو رآه كان اصغر خادم

The panegyrist likens him, in valor and generosity,

The eulogist likens him in valor and generosity,

To one who, were he to see him, would be his lowliest servant.

To one who, if seen, would be the lowliest servant.

ففي جيشه خمسون ألفاً كعنتر

وأمضى وفي خزانه ألف حاتم

For in his army are fifty thousand like Antar,

For in his army are fifty thousand like Antar,

And more resolute; and among his treasurers are a thousand Hatims.

And more charitable still, with coffers like Hatim.
