أحنّ إلى لقاء أبي عليٍّ

ويأبى أن يحنّ إلى جواري

ويأبى أن يحنّ إلى جواري

I long to meet Abu Ali,

I yearn for a meeting with my father Ali

yet he refuses to yearn to be near me.

Yet he refuses to yearn for my company

وقد جليت علينا الراح حتى

وقد جليت علينا الراح حتى

مللنا جلوة البيض العذاري

مللنا جلوة البيض العذاري

And wine has been unveiled before us, until

The winds have uncovered us until

we grew weary of the unveiling of fair-skinned virgins.

We grew weary of the radiance of the white pearls

وصفر أوجه العذال يوم

وصفر أوجه العذال يوم

وجوه شموسه تحكي اصفراري

وجوه شموسه تحكي اصفراري

And a day has yellowed the reproachers' faces,

The faces of the slender ones turned yellow the day

the faces of its suns mirroring my pallor.

ونهر تمرح الامواج فيه

And a river where the waves frolic,

as horses frolic amid a cloud of dust.

Like the prancing of horses in swirling dust

إذا اصفرت عليه الشمس خلنا

When the sun turns yellow over it, we imagine

And trees laden with cups,

laughing together in red and green.

إذا أبصرن في نهرٍ سماء

وهبت له نجوم الجلنار

When they glimpse a sky in a river,

If we saw the sky in a river

they bestow on it the stars of pomegranate blossom.
