اشْ نعملْ قد شُغِفْتُوا بيًّا

أتاملْ سرَّ ذا السُريّا

أتاملْ سرَّ ذا السُريّا

What shall I do? I have become enamored of myself.

Have you fallen in love with me?

I contemplate the mystery of these Pleiades.

Reflect upon the secret of this mystery

ونرسل رِقَّاصي إِليَّا

وحِبِّي لم يزلْ جِوارِي

And I send my messenger to myself.

And my beloved has always been beside me.

And my love has remained my companion

ما هُ إِلاّ شمسي وقماري

مَحْبُوبي عندي حاضرْ

He is none other than my sun and my moon.

My beloved is present with me.

وقال لي لازمْ الوقارْ

وَوَهْمُكَ في خِلع عذارِ

وَوَهْمُكَ في خِلع عذارِ

And he told me: Hold fast to dignity.

And told me to uphold dignity

And your fancy is bent on casting off the bridle.

And your illusion in taking off the jewel

يا حبي وإِن غبتَ عَّني

يا حبي وإِن غبتَ عَّني

وغيركُ في المقامِ ما يُغْني

وغيركُ في المقامِ ما يُغْني

O my love, even if you are absent from me,

Oh my love, even if you are absent from me

And none other than you avails in this station.

And others in this abode are of no use

مَنْ يبقى أو مَنْ هو إِلا يَفْنَى

مَنْ يبقى أو مَنْ هو إِلا يَفْنَى

ما تَعلمْ أنيِّ فانتظاري

ما تَعلمْ أنيِّ فانتظاري

Who endures, or who is there but must perish?

Who remains except one who perishes?

Do you not know that I am awaiting myself?

You don't know that I am waiting

ومني نَسْتقي خِبَاري

ومني نَسْتقي خِبَاري

أخباري تأتي مني ليّا

أخباري تأتي مني ليّا

And from myself I draw my tidings.

And from me we derive our best

My tidings come from me to me.

My news comes from me to me

رَمْزتي رمزه خفيّا

رَمْزتي رمزه خفيّا

واسقني خمرَ أزليَّا

واسقني خمرَ أزليَّا

My sign is his hidden sign.

My symbol marked it secretly

And give me pre-eternal wine to drink.

And serve me the wine of eternity

أنارتْ فوقَ كل نارِ

أنارتْ فوقَ كل نارِ

وسُّره مخبي في ضُمْاري

وسُّره مخبي في ضُمْاري

It shone above every fire.

It illuminated above all fire

And his secret is hidden in my innermost heart.

And its secret is hidden in my conscience

أجَّردْ عن جميع الأكوانْ

أجَّردْ عن جميع الأكوانْ

وأجْلالك حتى تبقى عريان

وأجْلالك حتى تبقى عريان

Strip yourself of all created worlds,

Strip away from all the universes

And of your coverings, until you are left naked.

And your majesty until you remain naked

تشاهد العيانَ والأعيانْ

تشاهد العيانَ والأعيانْ

صفالي عذري واعتذاري

صفالي عذري واعتذاري

You will behold what is manifest and the beings themselves.

You witness the witness and the witnessed

My excuse and my apology have become clear to me.

My excuse and apology is my chastity
