We have come to You in poverty, not in wealth.

And You are the One who has never ceased showing us kindness.

You have accustomed us to every grace; may

what You have accustomed us to receive from You endure.

Your disheveled paupers have cloaked themselves

in love of You—for it is the furthest reach of desire.

For in wealth there is no one like You,

nor in poverty any company like us.

We have seen You in everything that has appeared,

yet nothing of the affair belongs to us.

I concealed Your name out of jealous devotion—here I am,

cloaking it in the mountain pass and the winding path.

If You are with me in every state,

then I have no need to carry my provisions.

For You are the very Real—none other than You.

Ah, would that I knew: who am I?
