1. ذا الذي نَعْشِقْ نِعْم هُو

    قد عشِقْني باخْتِيارُوا

    This is the one we love—yes, it is He.

    He has loved me of His own choosing.

  2. مِن قديمْ هُ عِشْقُوا ذاتي

    وأنَا ساكِنْ بِدَارُوا

    From of old, His love has been my essence,

    And I dwell in His abode.

  3. ليْس شَيْ يُخْرِجْني عَنُّوا

    إِذْ ليْسَ ثمَّ دارْ لِغَيْرُوا

    Nothing drives me away from Him,

    For there is no abode for anyone but Him.

  4. كُلُّ شَيْ ظَهرْ لِي مِنَّوا

    حتَّى شَرُّوا عادْ وخَيْروا

    Everything appeared to me from Him,

    Even His evil, and His good as well.

  5. كُلُّ شَيْ صَدَرْ لِي عَنُّوا

    حَتَّى مَسْجِدُوا ودَيْرُوا

    Everything issued forth for me from Him,

    Even His mosque and His monastery.

  6. أنا واحِدْ ليْسَ إِثْنَيْنِ

    وفي هذا الأمْرِ حارُوا

    I am one, not two,

    And in this matter they were bewildered.

  7. مِنْ حَجَر يَنْبُعْ لَكَ الْمَا

    وفي حَجَرِ الماءْ نارُوا

    From a stone, water springs for you,

    And in the stone of water is His fire.

  8. أنا واحِدْ وَهْوَ واحِد

    كَيْفَ نَكُونُ إِحْنا اثْنَيْن

    I am one, and He is one;

    How can we be two?

  9. وَهْوَ مَعْبُود وأنا عابدْ

    فَيَجِي مِنْ هذا ضِدَّيْنْ

    He is worshipped, and I am a worshipper,

    So from this arise two opposites.

  10. وَهْوَ مَشْهُودْ وأنا شَاهِد

    مَن هُ فينا صاحِبْ اثنين

    He is witnessed, and I am a witness;

    Who among us possesses two?

  11. إِذا كُنَّا الزَّوْجُ واحدْ

    فالوِصالْ يَغيبْ نَفارُوا

    If we, the pair, are one,

    Then union makes His estrangement vanish.

  12. ونغِيبْ دُنْيا وَأُخْرَى

    في مُقامُوا وقَرَارُوا

    And we vanish from this world and the next,

    In His station and His resting place.

  13. إِحْرَزْ إنْ تَطْلُب شَيءَ برَّا

    لا تَجِدْ بَرَّامَو جُودْ

    Beware if you seek anything outside:

    You will find no existent thing outside.

  14. ليْسَ يَخْرُج عنْكَ ذَرَّا

    كُلُّ شَيْ هُ فيِك مَوجُود

    Not a speck goes beyond you;

    Everything exists within you.

  15. وأنْتَ غايَةُ المسَّرا

    وأنْتَ ناقِدْ وأنا مَنْقُود

    And you are the goal of the night journey,

    And you are the assayer, and I am the assayed.

  16. والْوُجُود واحد هُو كُلُّه بِيك

    وفِيكْ تَظْهَرْ آثاروا

    And existence is one, all of it through you,

    And in you its traces appear.

  17. وذَهَبْ ذَاتِك مُشَجَّر

    وفي أكْبادِكْ عَيارُوا

    And the gold of your essence is tree-patterned,

    And within your livers lies its fineness.

  18. إِلْتَفِت رُوحَك يا مَحْظُور

    أنْتَ هذا لس ثَمَّ غَيْرَك

    Turn toward your spirit, O constrained one.

    You are this; there is no one but you.

  19. وأنْتَ هُوَّتُ الحقيقهْ

    في قُعُودَكْ وفي سيْرَكْ

    And you are the abyss of Reality,

    In your sitting and in your journeying.

  20. وأنْتَ هُ سَرَّكْ وجَهْرَك

    ولاَ خَيْرَ إِلاّ خَيْرَك

    And you are He, in your secrecy and your openness,

    And there is no good except your good.

  21. بِيك ظَهَرت هَذِي الاَشْيا

    التي لا تَنْحَصارُوا

    Through you these things appeared,

    Which cannot be numbered.

  22. وإِليْك تَرْجِعْ بأمْرُوا

    إِنَّ مِن أجْلِكْ طِهَارُوا

    And to you they return at His command;

    Indeed, they appeared for your sake.

  23. الالف واحِد هُ كُلُّوا

    والحروفْ مِنُّوا ظَهَارَت

    Alif is one; it is the whole,

    And the letters appeared from it.

  24. خَلِّ أنْتَ الْبَا مع التَّا

    عَن ذاتِ الألِفْ صَدارَت

    Place bā alongside tā:

    They issued from the essence of alif.

  25. كذلِكَ اللأَم مع الْيَا

    مِن وُجُودِها انْفَجارَت

    Likewise, lām with yā

    Burst forth from its being.

  26. أنْتَ هُوَ الألِفْ والأحرُف

    فِي وُجُودِكْ انْحِشارُوا

    You are alif, and the letters

    Are gathered within your being.

  27. والعوالمْ كُلُّهمْ فِيكْ

    بَعْدَ ما فارُوا وغارُوا

    And all the worlds are within you,

    After they surged and sank.
