The one I love visited me before dawn.

So my abandon and my disgrace are lawful for me.

And he gave me drink and said, “Sleep and take comfort.”

No blame rests on whoever loves us.

So pass around the cup of the one I love and desire.

For love of the one I love is righteousness itself.

If he gave it to a dead man to drink, that man would live again.

For it is my wine, an oasis for souls.

Do not blame me, for I do not listen to reproach.

No—even if my heart were torn apart by shouting.

How very sweet is talk that recalls my beloved,

Among the people of purity and the people of felicity.

The beloved has revealed himself in the darkness of my night,

And granted me union with him until dawn.

My time has grown sweet, and I have cast off my bridle.

So give me drink from cups and goblets.
