يا ساقيَ القَوْم من شَذاه

يا ساقيَ القَوْم من شَذاه

الكلُّ لمَّا سَقيْت تاهوا

الكلُّ لمَّا سَقيْت تاهوا

O you who give the company drink from his fragrance,

All were bewildered when you gave them drink.

عاتَبو وبالسُّكرِ فيك طابوا

عاتَبو وبالسُّكرِ فيك طابوا

وصرَّحوا بالهوى وفاهُوا

وصرَّحوا بالهوى وفاهُوا

They voiced reproach, and through intoxication found delight in you.

And they openly declared their love and gave it voice.

ما شِربَ الكاسَ واحتساهُ

ما شِربَ الكاسَ واحتساهُ

إِلا محِبُّ قدِ اصطفاهُ

إِلا محِبُّ قدِ اصطفاهُ

No one has drunk the cup and sipped it

Except a lover whom he has chosen.

يا عاذِلي خلِّني وشُرْبي

يا عاذِلي خلِّني وشُرْبي

فلسْت تدري الشراب ماهُو

فلسْت تدري الشراب ماهُو

O you who chide me, leave me and my drinking alone,

For you do not know what the drink is.

قُم فاجتنِ قهْوةَ المعاني

قُم فاجتنِ قهْوةَ المعاني

من صفوةَ الكاسِ إِذ جَلاهُ

من صفوةَ الكاسِ إِذ جَلاهُ

Rise, then gather the wine of meanings

From the cup's pure essence, when he made it shine.

واسمعْ إِذا غنَّت المثاني

واسمعْ إِذا غنَّت المثاني

تقولُ يا هُو لبَيَّك يا هُوَ

تقولُ يا هُو لبَيَّك يا هُوَ

And listen when the strings sing,

Saying, 'O He! At your service, O He!'

واطْرب بذكْرِ الحبيب وافْرحْ

واطْرب بذكْرِ الحبيب وافْرحْ

قد بلَغَ الشَّوق منْتهاهُ

قد بلَغَ الشَّوق منْتهاهُ

And be enraptured by remembrance of the beloved, and rejoice:

Longing has reached its utmost limit.

ما قُلْتُ للقلْب أين حِبيِّ

ما قُلْتُ للقلْب أين حِبيِّ

إِلاَّ وقال الضَّميرُ ها هُو

إِلاَّ وقال الضَّميرُ ها هُو

I never said to the heart, 'Where is my beloved?'

Without the inner self replying, 'Here he is!'
