إِنْ لمْ يزُرْ شخصُ عيني

إِنْ لمْ يزُرْ شخصُ عيني

فالقلبُ عِندي ينُوبُ

فالقلبُ عِندي ينُوبُ

If my bodily form does not visit,

If my eyes do not visit your form

Then my heart stands in for me.

My heart takes your place

مَا غِبتُ لَكِنَّ جِسْمي

مَا غِبتُ لَكِنَّ جِسْمي

من النُّحول يذوبُ

من النُّحول يذوبُ

I have not been absent, but my body

I did not disappear, but my body

Melts away from emaciation.

Is melting away from emaciation

فَلمْ يَجدْني عذولٌ

فَلمْ يَجدْني عذولٌ

وَلاَ رآنِي رَقِيبُ

وَلاَ رآنِي رَقِيبُ

So no reproacher found me,

So no critic found me

Nor did a watcher see me.

Nor did any watcher see me

وَلوْ دَرَى الدَّهْرُ عَنِّي

وَلوْ دَرَى الدَّهْرُ عَنِّي

جَاءت إِلىَّ شعُوبُ

جَاءت إِلىَّ شعُوبُ

And were Time to know of me,

If fate only knew of me

Shaʿūb—Death—would come to me.

Nations would come to me

لَمْ يَبْقَ غَيْرُ غَرامٍ

لَمْ يَبْقَ غَيْرُ غَرامٍ

فَسَلهُ عَنِّي يِجُيبُ

فَسَلهُ عَنِّي يِجُيبُ

Nothing is left but passionate love;

Nothing remains but passion
