في قلبي لَمْ يغيبْ

My beloved has revealed himself

My beloved has appeared

In my heart; he has not been absent.

In my heart, never absent

وأنا بكاسي نمْلاَ

وأنا بكاسي نمْلاَ

خمراً مُزِجْ بطيبْ

خمراً مُزِجْ بطيبْ

And I fill my cup

As I sip gently

With wine blended with fragrance.

Wine infused with perfume

لقد سكنْ في داري

لقد سكنْ في داري

وصار لي نصيب

وصار لي نصيب

He has indeed settled in my home,

He has dwelled in my abode

And become my portion.

And become my fortune

وأنا في مَنَارِي

وأنا في مَنَارِي

الحاضِرِ الغاييب

الحاضِرِ الغاييب

And I am in my beacon,

While I in my minaret

Present, yet absent.

The present, the absent

قد صرتُ في مداري

قد صرتُ في مداري

اسْكرْ واهيم وطيب

اسْكرْ واهيم وطيب

I have come into my orbit;

I have become in my orbit

I grow drunk, wander in rapture, and rejoice.

Intoxicated, rapturous, delightful

ريتْ المعاني تَجْلى

ريتْ المعاني تَجْلى

والشكلُ قد حُجيب

والشكلُ قد حُجيب

I saw the meanings revealed,

I wish meanings would appear

And form was veiled.

While forms remain veiled

وكاسي قد تملا

وكاسي قد تملا

ودنِّي قد سُكيب

ودنِّي قد سُكيب

And my cup was filled,

My cup has filled up

And my wine jar was poured out.

My bosom has poured forth

تجلتِ المعاني

تجلتِ المعاني

وغابتِ الظِلاَل

وغابتِ الظِلاَل

The meanings were revealed,

Meanings have appeared

And the shadows vanished.

While shadows have vanished

وكُسر الأواني

وكُسر الأواني

ومُزِّقَ المِثالْ

ومُزِّقَ المِثالْ

And the vessels were shattered,

Vessels are shattered

And the image was torn apart.

And in me you may see me,

And through me you can see

In the wake of passing away.

In the wake of decline

يا طالبي تخلى

O seeker of me, free yourself

O my seeker, leave

From the little heart's mold;

The mold of illusion

ترقى المقامَ الأعلى

ترقى المقامَ الأعلى

والمنزلَ الرحيبْ

والمنزلَ الرحيبْ

You ascend to the highest station,

Ascend to the highest station

And the spacious dwelling.

And most spacious dwelling

تدخْلِ لديرِ عالِي

تدخْلِ لديرِ عالِي

في أرفع العلا

في أرفع العلا

You enter a lofty monastery,

Enter the lofty monastery

In the loftiest heights,

To the highest summit

مجموعٌ من الغوالي

مجموعٌ من الغوالي

منظومٌ من الحلا

منظومٌ من الحلا

Assembled from precious things,

A collection of revelations

Strung together from jewels.

A composition of beauty

تُسقى من الزلالِ

تُسقى من الزلالِ

كاسٌ لكَ اقبلا

كاسٌ لكَ اقبلا

You are given clear water to drink;

You are given to drink from the pure

A cup is yours—come forward.

A cup, come accept

تدخلْ لِحَيْ ليلى

تدخلْ لِحَيْ ليلى

وروضِها الخصيبْ

وروضِها الخصيبْ

You enter Layla's quarter,

Enter the garden of Layla

And her fertile garden.

And her fertile meadow

تبدو إِليكَ تُجلى

تبدو إِليكَ تُجلى

بحسنِها العجِيبْ

بحسنِها العجِيبْ

She appears to you, unveiled,

She will appear and unveil to you

In her wondrous beauty.

With her wondrous beauty

يا خِلي يا رفيقي

يا خِلي يا رفيقي

قَرِّبْ ترى عجبْ

قَرِّبْ ترى عجبْ

O my dear friend, O my companion,

O my dear friend

Draw near—you will see a wonder—

Come closer, behold the marvel

للمحفَل الحقيقي

للمحفَل الحقيقي

والدَّنِ والطربْ

والدَّنِ والطربْ

To the true gathering,

Of the true gathering

And the wine jar and rapture.

And the intimacy and rapture

واسلكْ على الطريق

واسلكْ على الطريق

تصلْ بلا تعب

تصلْ بلا تعب

And follow the path;

And tread the path

You will arrive without toil.

You will arrive without toil

وادنو بغيرِ مهلهْ

وادنو بغيرِ مهلهْ

لحضرةِ الحبيبْ

لحضرةِ الحبيبْ

And draw near without delay

And approach swiftly

To the presence of the beloved.

The court of the Beloved

تُخلع عليك حُلَّه

تُخلع عليك حُلَّه

تنكى بها الرقِيبْ

تنكى بها الرقِيبْ

A robe is bestowed upon you;

Robes will be bestowed on you

With it you vex the watcher.

With which to confound the critic

ادنو مع الحبايبْ

ادنو مع الحبايبْ

للمنزل المُنيفْ

للمنزل المُنيفْ

Draw near with the loved ones

Approach with the loved ones

To the lofty dwelling.

To the gentle dwelling

واصعدْ على مراتبْ

واصعدْ على مراتبْ

المجد واتّصيِفْ

المجد واتّصيِفْ

And ascend the ranks

And ascend the degrees

Of glory, and take on its qualities.

Of glory and intimacy

ترَى منَ العجائبْ

ترَى منَ العجائبْ

ما لَمْ تَطِق تصيِف

ما لَمْ تَطِق تصيِف

You will see among the wonders

You will behold marvels

What you could not describe.

Beyond powers of intimacy

إِن شِئْتَ أن تُوَلِّي

إِن شِئْتَ أن تُوَلِّي

كلُّ الدُّعا مُجيبْ

كلُّ الدُّعا مُجيبْ

If you wish to become

If you wish to devote

An answerer of every prayer,

All supplication responds

وتَغْتَني وَتمْلاَ

وتَغْتَني وَتمْلاَ

من فنِّنا الغريبْ

من فنِّنا الغريبْ

And grow rich and be filled

And be enriched and filled

From our wondrous art,

From our strange arts

تَرَى الوجودْ موجودْ

تَرَى الوجودْ موجودْ

والواجِدْ اندثرْ

والواجِدْ اندثرْ

You see existence existing,

You will see existence existent

And the finder has vanished.

While the Exister has vanished

وما سِواكْ مفقودْ

وما سِواكْ مفقودْ

ومَنْ بَدا ظهرْ

ومَنْ بَدا ظهرْ

And all besides you is lost,

And naught but You remains

And whoever appeared is manifest.

And whoever appeared, vanished

اعقِد لِوَاكْ وانفردْ

اعقِد لِوَاكْ وانفردْ

مع السِّويِ النَظرْ

مع السِّويِ النَظرْ

Raise your banner and stand alone,

Bind yourself to Yourself alone

With a balanced gaze.

And gaze at the Eternal

فمن عَذَلْ يُوَلي

فمن عَذَلْ يُوَلي

ومَن فَقَد يُصِيبْ

ومَن فَقَد يُصِيبْ

For whoever reproached turns away,

For whoever is rejected attains

And whoever lost finds.

And whoever loses gains

ومَن وصَلْ تَجَلِّى

ومَن وصَلْ تَجَلِّى

ومَن بَعَدْ قَريبْ

ومَن بَعَدْ قَريبْ

And whoever arrived becomes manifest,

And whoever unites appears

And whoever was far is near.

And whoever is far is near

تراكَ فيك ظاهرْ

تراكَ فيك ظاهرْ

وحرفُكْ انطماسْ

وحرفُكْ انطماسْ

You see yourself manifest within yourself,

You see yourself in Yourself manifest

And your letter is effaced.

While Your creation is erased

وتحتفي المظاهرْ

وتحتفي المظاهرْ

وتُحْجَبْ الحَوَاسْ

وتُحْجَبْ الحَوَاسْ

And the manifestations celebrate,

And phenomena celebrate

And the senses are veiled.

While senses are veiled

وما سوَاك داثرْ

وما سوَاك داثرْ

فخذْ في الاحتراس

فخذْ في الاحتراس

And all besides you has vanished,

And naught but You remains

So be on your guard.

So be on your guard

إِياك تبُوحْ أصلاً

إِياك تبُوحْ أصلاً

بسرِّكَ المريبْ

بسرِّكَ المريبْ

Beware of ever disclosing

Never reveal your secret

Your unsettling secret,

Or you will be tried and tested

فتُمتحنْ وتُبْلَى

فتُمتحنْ وتُبْلَى

وكنْ أمينْ لبيبْ

وكنْ أمينْ لبيبْ

Lest you be tested and afflicted;

But be loyal and wise

And be trustworthy and discerning.
