سَقَانِي حِبَّي بِكُؤُوسْ

سَقَانِي حِبَّي بِكُؤُوسْ

من خَمْرَةٍ لم تَنْعَصِر

من خَمْرَةٍ لم تَنْعَصِر

My beloved gave me drink in cups

My love brought me cups

Of wine that was never pressed.

Of undistilled wine

مِنْها شَرَابْ أهْلِ الْخُلوص

مِنْها شَرَابْ أهْلِ الْخُلوص

وكُلُّ شَيْ فِيها ظَهَرْ

وكُلُّ شَيْ فِيها ظَهَرْ

From it the pure take their drink,

A drink for the sincere souls

And in it everything became manifest.

Everything in it became apparent

شَرَبْتُ منها جُرْعَتِي

شَرَبْتُ منها جُرْعَتِي

وهِمْتُ فِيكَ يا ذا الجلاَلْ

وهِمْتُ فِيكَ يا ذا الجلاَلْ

I drank my draught of it,

I took my share of it

And was lost in love for You, O Possessor of Majesty.

And I imagined, O You of Majesty

وانْجَلتْ لِي جَلْوَتِي

وانْجَلتْ لِي جَلْوَتِي

وَلاَ رَأيْتُ إلاَّ الكمال

وَلاَ رَأيْتُ إلاَّ الكمال

And my unveiling became clear to me,

My veil was lifted

And I saw nothing but perfection.

And I saw nothing but perfection

وأسْكَرتْني سَكْرَتِي

وأسْكَرتْني سَكْرَتِي

كما سَكِرْ منْهَا الرِّجالْ

كما سَكِرْ منْهَا الرِّجالْ

And my intoxication made me drunk,

It intoxicated me, my intoxication

Just as the men grew drunk on it.

As it had intoxicated men

مُدَامةَ تُحْيي النُّفُوسْ

مُدَامةَ تُحْيي النُّفُوسْ

ومَنْ شَرِب مِنْها سَكَرْ

ومَنْ شَرِب مِنْها سَكَرْ

Wine that brings souls to life,

An exhilarating drink that gives life to souls

And whoever drinks of it grows drunk.

And whoever drinks it gets drunk

قَد انْجَلَت لِي كالْعَروس

قَد انْجَلَت لِي كالْعَروس

ورأيتُ شمساً وقَمَرْ

ورأيتُ شمساً وقَمَرْ

It has been unveiled to me like a bride,

The veil lifted for me like a bride

And I saw a sun and a moon.

And I saw a sun and a moon

بالكْ تَكُنْ بُوِيح أخِي

بالكْ تَكُنْ بُوِيح أخِي

وامْسِك السِّرَّ العجيب

وامْسِك السِّرَّ العجيب

Beware of being indiscreet, my brother,

Control yourself, my brother

And keep the wondrous secret,

And keep the wondrous secret

كَيْ يَنْكَشِفْ لك الْغِطا

كَيْ يَنْكَشِفْ لك الْغِطا

حَتَّى تُشَاهِد للحبيب

حَتَّى تُشَاهِد للحبيب

So that the veil may be lifted for you,

So the covering may open for you

Until you behold the Beloved.

Until you witness the Beloved

مِنَّك وَفيك هُ كُلَّ شيْ

مِنَّك وَفيك هُ كُلَّ شيْ

إِنْ كُنْتَ فاهِم أو لبيب

إِنْ كُنْتَ فاهِم أو لبيب

From you and within you, He is everything,

Everything in you and about you

If you have understanding or discernment.

If you are understanding or intelligent

إرجَعْ إِلى ذَاتِكْ وغَوِص

إرجَعْ إِلى ذَاتِكْ وغَوِص

وإِيَّاك تَقفشى في الْوَعَر

وإِيَّاك تَقفشى في الْوَعَر

Return to your own self and dive,

Return to your essence and dive deep

And beware of getting caught in rough terrain.

And beware of wandering into difficulties

تَبْقَى الْعَوام غَفْلَه جُلُوس

تَبْقَى الْعَوام غَفْلَه جُلُوس

وأنْتَ تَرَى حِبَّك جَهَارْ

وأنْتَ تَرَى حِبَّك جَهَارْ

The common folk remain seated, heedless,

The commoners remain sitting heedless

While you see your beloved in plain sight.

While you see your love unveiled

يا جاهلاً بذي الأمور

يا جاهلاً بذي الأمور

سَلِّم لنَا فِيما تَرَى

سَلِّم لنَا فِيما تَرَى

O you ignorant of these matters,

O Ignorant one, of the matters

Yield to us regarding what you see.

Submit to us in what you see

الْخَمْرُ بيننا تَدُور

الْخَمْرُ بيننا تَدُور

والْكُلُّ نَحْنُ سُكَّرا

والْكُلُّ نَحْنُ سُكَّرا

The wine goes round among us,

The wine circulates amongst us

And all of us are drunk.

And we are all drunk

تَرَى الرجال مَعْنا حضورُ

تَرَى الرجال مَعْنا حضورُ

وقُلُوبهم مِعَمَّرَا

وقُلُوبهم مِعَمَّرَا

You see the men present with us,

You see, men are present with us

And their hearts are full.

Yet their hearts are faithful

تَراهُم الْكُلُّ رُقُوص

تَراهُم الْكُلُّ رُقُوص

والسِّرُّ فِيهِم قد ظَهَر

والسِّرُّ فِيهِم قد ظَهَر

You see them all dancing,

People see them as sober

And the secret has become manifest in them.

Yet the secret in them has become apparent

وقد بَذَلُوا فيها النفوس

وقد بَذَلُوا فيها النفوس

ولَيْلُهُم قَد صارَ نَهَار

ولَيْلُهُم قَد صارَ نَهَار

And they have given their souls for it,

And they have sacrificed their souls in it

And their night has become day.

And their night has become day
