بوصْلِ حبي دَعْني

بوصْلِ حبي دَعْني

نَفْخَرُ يَا صَاحِبي

نَفْخَرُ يَا صَاحِبي

Let me, in union with my beloved,

With the union of my love let me boast, my friend

glory, O my companion.

I thought well of you

حَسَّنْتُ فيكَ ظَنِّي

حَسَّنْتُ فيكَ ظَنِّي

وَقَضيْتَ مأرِبِي

وَقَضيْتَ مأرِبِي

I have thought well of you,

And you fulfilled my needs

and you have fulfilled my wish.

You distracted me from myself

أفْنَانِي عَنِّي بِيَّا

أفْنَانِي عَنِّي بِيَّا

وهَذْي بُغْيَتي

وهَذْي بُغْيَتي

He effaced me from myself, through myself,

This is my desire

and this is my aim.

You pictured me in it

صوَّرْتي مِنِّي فِيَّا

صوَّرْتي مِنِّي فِيَّا

مِنْ وصْلِ حَضْرتي

مِنْ وصْلِ حَضْرتي

My form is from me, within me,

From the union of my presence

from union with my presence.

And this is the vision

وهَذِي هِيَ الرؤْيا

وهَذِي هِيَ الرؤْيا

مِنْ عَيْن دَعْوتِي

مِنْ عَيْن دَعْوتِي

And this is the vision,

From the eye of my call

from the very source of my call.

We seek my perfection in it

نَطْلُب كَمالِي فِيَّا

نَطْلُب كَمالِي فِيَّا

مِن وصْلِ جانِبي

مِن وصْلِ جانِبي

I seek my perfection within myself,

From the union of my side

through union with my own side.

To live happily in it

نَعِش بِهِ هَنِيَّا

نَعِش بِهِ هَنِيَّا

فافْهَمُ مَطالبي

فافْهَمُ مَطالبي

I live happily through it;

So understand my needs

so understand my aims.

Come O you who are dutiful

احْضَرْ يا مَن هُوَ بَرَّا

احْضَرْ يا مَن هُوَ بَرَّا

واعْبُرْ لِدَيْرِنا

واعْبُرْ لِدَيْرِنا

Come, O you who are outside,

And cross over to our monastery

and cross over to our monastery.

Where cups are watered

تُسْقى كُوسَ مسرَّا

تُسْقى كُوسَ مسرَّا

مِن خَمْرةِ الْمُنى

مِن خَمْرةِ الْمُنى

You will be served cups of delight,

With the wine of wishes

from the wine of wishes.

Nothing remains in it

لَسِ يَبْقى فِيها ذَرَّا

لَسِ يَبْقى فِيها ذَرَّا

مِن وحْشَةِ الدُّنا

مِن وحْشَةِ الدُّنا

Not a speck remains in it

Of the desolation of the world

of the world's estrangement,

Except like the rays of a sun

إِلاَّ كَضَوءِ شَمْسٍ

إِلاَّ كَضَوءِ شَمْسٍ

تُشْرِقْ لِشَارِبي

تُشْرِقْ لِشَارِبي

save something like a sun's light

That rises for its drinker

shining for my drinker.

So be determined for it, cast off

فاعْزِمْ عليْها اخْلَعْ

فاعْزِمْ عليْها اخْلَعْ

ثَوْبَ النَّجايْني

ثَوْبَ النَّجايْني

So resolve upon it; cast off

The clothes of salvation

the robe of al-najāynī [unclear term].

Join, O messenger of the broker

انْتَمَّ زَجَلْ سِمْسار

انْتَمَّ زَجَلْ سِمْسار

بالْبَيْع والشَّرِي

بالْبَيْع والشَّرِي

A broker's zajal is complete,

In selling and buying

in selling and buying.

And whoever sells what he loses

ومَن يَبِعْ ما يخْسرْ

ومَن يَبِعْ ما يخْسرْ

لأنِّي مُشْترِي

لأنِّي مُشْترِي

And whoever sells does not lose,

Because I am the buyer

for I am the buyer.

Expensive in the folds of mysteries

غالِي في طَيّ أسْرَارْ

غالِي في طَيّ أسْرَارْ

لَوْشى وشُشْتري

لَوْشى وشُشْتري

Precious within the folds of secrets—

Embroidered and encrusted

Lawshī and Shushtarī.

With a nearness to your beauty

بقُربٍ مِن جمَالَكْ

بقُربٍ مِن جمَالَكْ

تُشرِقْ كَواكِبي

تُشرِقْ كَواكِبي

Through nearness to your beauty,

My stars shine

my stars shine.

So enjoy your union

فاغْتَنِمْ وِصَالكْ

فاغْتَنِمْ وِصَالكْ

مَعَ الحبايبِ

مَعَ الحبايبِ

So make the most of your union

With the loved ones

with the beloved ones.
