I shall surely cast off my bridle in my love for you.

By your might, not by mine—no, nor by my stratagems.

And I shall abandon the universe until I see neither it nor

see even the glances, so as to relinquish my own relinquishment.

Creation is your creation, and the command is your command.

So what am I? May you not exist, mere ruined remnant!

I spoke the truth: there is nothing in the universe but you.

I seek refuge in God from my knowledge and from my deeds.

There is no place for the veil in your existence,

Except through the secret of the letters: 'Look at the mountain.'

You appeared, and so became hidden through your very appearing.

You yourselves guided the guide and me to yourselves.

You yourselves pointed to yourselves, from yourselves, through yourselves—

An everlastingness that expressed the mystery of beginningless eternity.

You knew yourselves—so who is this one well acquainted with you?

You are they—by the life of love, O my hope!

How often denial denies! No—and recognition is your recognition.

And denial belongs only to the creature made of haste.

Through illusion it surely subsists, and realization annihilates it.

How can the frail moth endure the flames?

The radiances of glory have indeed burned away all my reason.

I confess to helplessness, submission, and lethargy.
