أنا أسْتَغْفُرُ اللهَ مِني

أنا أسْتَغْفُرُ اللهَ مِني

وما فِيَّا شيْ يُعْجِبْنِي

وما فِيَّا شيْ يُعْجِبْنِي

I seek God's forgiveness for myself.

I seek God's forgiveness from myself

And nothing in me pleases me.

And there is nothing in me that pleases me

وما لِي غَرِيم إِلاّ أنا

وما لِي غَرِيم إِلاّ أنا

باللهِ خلِصُونِي مِنِّي

باللهِ خلِصُونِي مِنِّي

And I have no adversary but myself.

I have no enemy but myself

For God's sake, deliver me from myself.

Free me from myself, oh God

وأنا إِليّ سبب تَعْذِيبي

وأنا إِليّ سبب تَعْذِيبي

وأنا إِليَّ سبب تنْكِيدِي

وأنا إِليَّ سبب تنْكِيدِي

And I myself am the cause of my torment.

And I am the cause of my own torment

And I myself am the cause of my misery.

And I am the cause of my own distress

وأنا إِليَّ سبب تقْرِيبي

وأنا إِليَّ سبب تقْرِيبي

وأنا إِليَّ سبب تَبْعِيدِي

وأنا إِليَّ سبب تَبْعِيدِي

And I myself am the cause of my being brought near.

And I am the cause of my own nearness

And I myself am the cause of my being sent far away.

And I am the cause of my own distance

وأنا إِليَّ سبب تقييدي

وأنا إِليَّ سبب تقييدي

وأنَا إِليَّ سبب إِطلاَقِي

وأنَا إِليَّ سبب إِطلاَقِي

And I myself am the cause of my binding.

And I am the cause of my own shackling

And I myself am the cause of my release.

And I am the cause of my own release

وأنَا نِيَتِي أمْحَتْني

وأنَا نِيَتِي أمْحَتْني

وَمحْوي ظَهرْ لِي مِنِّي

وَمحْوي ظَهرْ لِي مِنِّي

And I—my intention has effaced me.

And my intention has erased me

And my effacement appeared to me from myself.

And my erasure has appeared to me from me

وما لِي غَريم إِلاَّ أنا

وما لِي غَريم إِلاَّ أنا

بالله خَلصُونِي مني

بالله خَلصُونِي مني

And I have no adversary but myself.

I have no enemy but myself

For God's sake, deliver me from myself.

Free me from myself, oh God

أنَا ما أنا خَلُونِي

أنَا ما أنا خَلُونِي

أنَا في الأنَا لَم أبوحْ

أنَا في الأنَا لَم أبوحْ

I am not I; leave me alone.

I am not I, leave me be

Within the 'I,' I have not spoken openly.

I have not confessed in my ego

ولِي بِي مَعانِي تظهرْ

ولِي بِي مَعانِي تظهرْ

ولِي بِي معانِي تُشْرَح

ولِي بِي معانِي تُشْرَح

And within myself I have meanings that appear.

And I have meanings in me that appear

And within myself I have meanings that are unfolded.

And I have meanings in me that unfold

إِني مُحْتَجِبٌ في إِنِّي

إِني مُحْتَجِبٌ في إِنِّي

ومَنْ لي بإِنِّي أفْرَح

ومَنْ لي بإِنِّي أفْرَح

Indeed, I am veiled within my 'I am.'

I am hidden within my self

And who will grant me my 'I am,' so I may rejoice?

And who will make me joyous with my self

تهَتْكَتُ فِيَّا دَهْرِي

تهَتْكَتُ فِيَّا دَهْرِي

وهَتْكِي ظَهرْ لِي مِنِّي

وهَتْكِي ظَهرْ لِي مِنِّي

I have laid myself bare within myself all my life.

My life violated me

And my exposure appeared to me from myself.

And my violation appeared to me from me

وما لِي غريمْ إِلاَّ أنَا

وما لِي غريمْ إِلاَّ أنَا

بالله خَلِصُونِي منِّي

بالله خَلِصُونِي منِّي

And I have no adversary but myself.

And I have no enemy but myself

For God's sake, deliver me from myself.

Free me from myself, oh God

بالله يا أنا أفْرَغْ عنِّي

بالله يا أنا أفْرَغْ عنِّي

كَفَى ما جَرَى لِي مِنَّكْ

كَفَى ما جَرَى لِي مِنَّكْ

For God's sake, O self, leave me alone.

Oh God, oh self, empty me of myself

Enough of what has befallen me from you.

Enough of what has happened to me from you

كَم لَك في الْخطايَا تُوقِعْني

كَم لَك في الْخطايَا تُوقِعْني

وواتَّبِعَك ولا أفْرَعْ عَنَّك

وواتَّبِعَك ولا أفْرَعْ عَنَّك

How often you make me fall into sins!

How many sins have you made me fall into

And I follow you and do not break away from you.

And I followed you and did not branch off from you

لَوْ أنَّك غَريب فَرَّجْتَك

لَوْ أنَّك غَريب فَرَّجْتَك

وخَيَّبْتُ فِيكَ ظنَّك

وخَيَّبْتُ فِيكَ ظنَّك

Had you been a stranger, I would have let you go,

If you were a stranger, I would have relieved you

And dashed the hopes you placed in yourself.

And failed you in your expectation

لكن الذِي منْ أجْلُه

لكن الذِي منْ أجْلُه

تَمْزِيقِي لَقد جَننِي

تَمْزِيقِي لَقد جَننِي

But the one for whose sake

But the one for whom

I am torn apart has indeed driven me mad.

My tearing myself apart has maddened me

وما لِي غريمْ إِلاَّ أنا

وما لِي غريمْ إِلاَّ أنا

بالله خَلِصُونِي مِنِّي

بالله خَلِصُونِي مِنِّي

And I have no adversary but myself.

I have no enemy but myself
