أسْمِع بِهِمْ وَأبْصرْ

أسْمِع بِهِمْ وَأبْصرْ

تَسْمَعْهُم وتُبْصِر

تَسْمَعْهُم وتُبْصِر

How keen their hearing, and how sharp their sight!

Listen to them and see,

You will hear them and see.

Hear them and envision,

لا تنتظرْ مَخْبَرْ

لا تنتظرْ مَخْبَرْ

غَيْرُكْ فَأنْتَ أخَبرْ

غَيْرُكْ فَأنْتَ أخَبرْ

Do not await an informant

Don't wait for another report,

Other than yourself, for you know better.

For you are the most informed.

خَلْقي يرَى عنائي

خَلْقي يرَى عنائي

أحلاماً يستفيدو

أحلاماً يستفيدو

My creation sees my suffering

My creation sees my hardship

As dreams from which it benefits.

As dreams they benefit from,

والحقُ مستبانُ

والحقُ مستبانُ

بكل ما أريدو

بكل ما أريدو

And the Truth is manifest

While the truth is evident

In all that I desire.

In all that they want.

وما أحلى ما يقول

وما أحلى ما يقول

لَيسَ الخديم بسيدو

لَيسَ الخديم بسيدو

And how sweet is what he says:

How lovely are the words,

The servant is not his master.

The servant is not their master.

قفْ عِنْدَ ما أمَرْتكْ

قفْ عِنْدَ ما أمَرْتكْ

لا تعتدي هِ تحير

لا تعتدي هِ تحير

Keep to what I have commanded you;

Stop at what I commanded you,

Do not overstep it, lest you become bewildered.

Don't transgress and get confused.

أذكر وَصُومْ وَصَلي

أذكر وَصُومْ وَصَلي

وافرحْ ونامْ وافْطَرْ

وافرحْ ونامْ وافْطَرْ

Remember God, and fast, and pray;

Remember, fast, and pray,

And rejoice, and sleep, and break your fast.

Be happy, sleep, and break fast.

تعَدَّى مِنْ وجودَكْ

تعَدَّى مِنْ وجودَكْ

إِن شئت أنْ تراهمْ

إِن شئت أنْ تراهمْ

Pass beyond your existence

You have exceeded your existence

If you wish to see them.

If you wish to see them,

روحْ لَهُمْ واجَّرَدْ

روحْ لَهُمْ واجَّرَدْ

إِن شئت أنْ تراهمْ

إِن شئت أنْ تراهمْ

Go to them, and strip yourself bare

Go to them selflessly.

If you wish to see them.

If you wish to see them,

روحْ لَهُمْ واجَّرَدْ

روحْ لَهُمْ واجَّرَدْ

عن كل ما سواهمْ

عن كل ما سواهمْ

Go to them, and strip yourself bare

Go to them selflessly.

Of everything apart from them.

From everything other than them

وأخرجْ عن العوالمْ

وأخرجْ عن العوالمْ

وادْخُل تحتَ لواهمْ

وادْخُل تحتَ لواهمْ

And leave the worlds behind,

And come out of the worlds,

And enter beneath their banner.

And enter under their banners,

والبس خلاعْ وفاهمْ

والبس خلاعْ وفاهمْ

فِانَكَ المُؤمر

فِانَكَ المُؤمر

And don the robes of their fidelity,

And wear the dress of their loyalty.

For you are the appointed commander.

For you are the commander,

واحكمْ فالأمرْ أمركْ

واحكمْ فالأمرْ أمركْ

ما ثمَّ غيرك تخْترْ

ما ثمَّ غيرك تخْترْ

And rule, for command is yours;

And judge, for the order is yours,

There is none but you; you choose.

There is none other than you to choose,

مزقْ حجابْ حِسكْ

مزقْ حجابْ حِسكْ

ترى العيوبْ تجلى

ترى العيوبْ تجلى

Tear apart the veil of your senses;

Tear the veil of your senses.

You will see the faults revealed.

You will see flaws disappear

وَتنَظُرْ بعينك

وَتنَظُرْ بعينك

أنتَ الوجودْ كُلَّهّ

أنتَ الوجودْ كُلَّهّ

And you will see with your own eye:

And look with your eye,

You are all of existence.

You are all existence,

وتجتلي بذاتك

وتجتلي بذاتك

ولا رقيبْ أصْلاَ

ولا رقيبْ أصْلاَ

And you behold through your own essence,

And manifest through your essence.

And there is no watcher at all.

And there is no guardian at all,

وَتَنْظُرَك مُوَحَدْ

وَتَنْظُرَك مُوَحَدْ

أحدٌ ما ثمَّ أكثر

أحدٌ ما ثمَّ أكثر

And you see yourself made one:

And your unified self looks at you,

One—there is no multiplicity.

No one, nothing more than one,

باطنْ بكل باطنْ

باطنْ بكل باطنْ

ظاهرْ بكل مظهر

ظاهرْ بكل مظهر

Hidden in all that is hidden,

Inward to every inward,

Manifest in every manifestation.

Outward to every outward,

وصار الخلقُ خَلْقَك

وصار الخلقُ خَلْقَك

يا صاحِ منْ صفاتك

يا صاحِ منْ صفاتك

And creation has become your creation,

And creation became your creation,

O friend, from your attributes.

O revealer of your attributes,

تبقى على اختيارَكْ

تبقى على اختيارَكْ

أن أصطَفتكَ ذاتكْ

أن أصطَفتكَ ذاتكْ

You remain as you choose,

You remain by your choice,

If your essence has chosen you.

If your essence chose you,

قَطِبْ وِلذْ واطْرَبْ

قَطِبْ وِلذْ واطْرَبْ

وَلاَ تَخفْ شَتَاتك

وَلاَ تَخفْ شَتَاتك

Blend, take pleasure, and rejoice,

Turn in ecstasy and tremble,

And do not fear your dispersal.

And don't fear your dispersion,

وإِنْ عَرَضْك مُعَارض

وإِنْ عَرَضْك مُعَارض

بالوهمِ قَد تَكَثرْ

بالوهمِ قَد تَكَثرْ

And if an opponent confronts you,

And if an opponent confronts you

Having multiplied through delusion,

With illusion, you may multiply,

قَطِع بسِيفِ حقكْ

قَطِع بسِيفِ حقكْ

واصرخْ اللهُ أكبر

واصرخْ اللهُ أكبر

Cut him down with the sword of your truth,

Cut with the sword of your truth,

And cry out, "God is greatest!"

And cry "God is the Greatest."

خلِ الفقيه بوهمه

خلِ الفقيه بوهمه

مربوط مدى الزمانِ

مربوط مدى الزمانِ

Leave the jurist to his delusion,

Leave the jurist to his illusion,

Bound for all time.

Tied for eternity,

ولا تخِلي يهمز

ولا تخِلي يهمز

ويكسَّرْ الأواني

ويكسَّرْ الأواني

And do not let him slander

And do not let him criticize

And smash the vessels,

And break the vessels,

حتى يحظى بالأسفارْ

حتى يحظى بالأسفارْ

ويجتلي المعاني

ويجتلي المعاني

Until he is favored with the books

Until he attains the journeys,

And beholds the meanings.

And the meanings manifest.

رَوَّقْ له الخوابي

رَوَّقْ له الخوابي

واملأ الكؤوسَ ودَوَّر

واملأ الكؤوسَ ودَوَّر

Clarify the wine in the jars for him,

Sweeten for him the cups,

And fill the cups and pass them round.

Fill and pass around the wine,

وَفرَّغُوا واملا هو

وَفرَّغُوا واملا هو

من خمرك المُطَهرْ

من خمرك المُطَهرْ

And empty out, and fill him

And empty and refill,

With your purified wine.

From your pure wine.

أنظرْ ترا تَجدْ فيكْ

أنظرْ ترا تَجدْ فيكْ

أدنى الوجودْ وأعلا

أدنى الوجودْ وأعلا

Look: you will see and find within yourself

Look, you will find in yourself,

The lowest of existence and the highest.

The lowest and highest of existence,

وكلْ عبِد ساجدْ

وكلْ عبِد ساجدْ

فِي حَضْرتك لمولا

فِي حَضْرتك لمولا

And every servant prostrates

And every worshipper prostrate,

In your presence, before the Lord.

In your presence, my Master.

فافتحْ عيون عِشْقَا

فافتحْ عيون عِشْقَا

ولا ترى سِوى الله

ولا ترى سِوى الله

So open your eyes in passionate love,

So open the eyes of love,

And see none but God.

And see none but God,

واحفظ به حُدُودَكْ

واحفظ به حُدُودَكْ

والزمْ ولا تُغيرْ

والزمْ ولا تُغيرْ

And keep your bounds through Him;

And preserve through Him your limits,

And hold fast, and do not change.

And hold fast and do not change.

سيدي فحسبكَ الله

سيدي فحسبكَ الله

فهو المرادْ الأكبر

فهو المرادْ الأكبر

My master, God is enough for you,

My Master, God suffices you,

For He is the supreme goal.

For He is the Greatest Desired.
