And if we leave, you do not say the same as

we say: “Bring his steed forward! Bring it!”

إن كنت ذا علم فمن ذا الذي

مثل الذي تعلم لم يعلم

If you possess knowledge, who is there

who has not learned the like of what you know?

ولست في الغارب من دولة

ونحن من دونك في المتسم

Nor are you at the withers of power,

with us beneath you at the [hoof].

We too have held office and been dismissed, just as

you have; we did not become lesser, nor did you grow greater.
