  1. وإذا رأيت فتى بأعلى رتبة

    في شامخ من عره المترفع

    And when I see a young man at the highest rank,

    in the lofty heights of his exalted [glory?],

  2. قالت لي النفس العروق بفضلها

    ما كان أولاني بهذا الموضع

    my soul, [aware?] of its own merit, says to me:

    “How much more deserving I was of this position!”
