مَنwho ذاthis one الَّذيwho بِإِخائِهِin his brotherhood وَبِوُدِّهِand in his affection
مَن ذا الَّذي بِإِخائِهِ وَبِوُدِّهِ
مِنafter بَعدِthe passing of وُدِّكَyour affection أَوor إِخائِكَyour brotherhood أَفرَحُI rejoice
مِن بَعدِ وُدِّكَ أَو إِخائِكَ أَفرَحُ
Who is there in whose brotherhood and affection
I could rejoice after your affection or brotherhood?

When the ill-wishers speak to us tomorrow,
and their eyes glance toward me and toward you—

مِنّا مُباعدَةٌ وَبَينٌ مُفصِحُ
they have been unsettled, after fine fellowship,
by estrangement between us and an unmistakable parting—

will you show them what they desire, and do
of that what is praised and what is deemed shameful?

pure in brotherhood, whose like is not to be cast aside?
