أَنتَ الفَتى وَابن الفَتى وَأَخو الفَتى

أَنتَ الفَتى وَابن الفَتى وَأَخو الفَتى

وَسَيِّدُنا لَولا خَلائِقُ أَربَعُ

وَسَيِّدُنا لَولا خَلائِقُ أَربَعُ

You are a noble youth, a noble youth’s son, and a noble youth’s brother,

You are my hero and son of a hero and brother of a hero

and would be our chief, were it not for four traits:

And our master if not for four traits

نُكُولٌ عَن الجَلّى وَقُربٌ مِنَ الخَنا

نُكُولٌ عَن الجَلّى وَقُربٌ مِنَ الخَنا

وَبُخلٌ عَن الجَدوى وَأَنَّكَ تُبَّعُ

وَبُخلٌ عَن الجَدوى وَأَنَّكَ تُبَّعُ

shrinking from great undertakings and closeness to indecency,

Disobedience in the face of duty and intimacy with meanness

stinginess in giving, and your being a mere follower.

Stinginess from usefulness and that you are easily misled
