فَيَصمُتُso he would fall silent عَنّاtoward us وَلاnor صارِمُsharp
فَيَصمُتُ عَنّا وَلا صارِمُ
We have a companion whose tongue is neither blunt—
We have a companion who is not of feeble tongue,
so that he might spare us his talk—nor sharp.
Who is silent to us, not stern,
وَشَرُّand the worst الرِجالِof men عَلىtoward أَهلِهِhis family
وَشَرُّ الرِجالِ عَلى أَهلِهِ

And the worst of men toward his family
And the worst of men for his family
and his companions is the unruly fool.
And companions is the reckless fool.
