يَقولونَ نَصرانيَّةٌ أُمُّ خالِدٍ

يَقولونَ نَصرانيَّةٌ أُمُّ خالِدٍ

فَقُلتُ ذَروها كُلُّ نَفسٍ وَدينُها

فَقُلتُ ذَروها كُلُّ نَفسٍ وَدينُها

They say Umm Khalid is a Christian.

They say Khalid's mother is a Christian

So I said: Leave her be—to each soul its faith.

So I said, let everyone be with their own faith

فَإِن تَكُ نَصرانيَّةً أُمُّ خالِدٍ

فَإِن تَكُ نَصرانيَّةً أُمُّ خالِدٍ

فَإِنَّ لَها وَجهاً جَميلاً يزَينُها

فَإِنَّ لَها وَجهاً جَميلاً يزَينُها

For if Umm Khalid is a Christian,

If Khalid's mother is a Christian

she indeed has a beautiful face that adorns her.

She has a beautiful face adorning her

وَلا عَيبَ فيها غَيرَ زُرقَةِ عَينِها

وَلا عَيبَ فيها غَيرَ زُرقَةِ عَينِها

كَذاكَ عِتاقُ الطَيرِ زُرقٌ عيونُها

كَذاكَ عِتاقُ الطَيرِ زُرقٌ عيونُها

And she has no flaw except the blueness of her eye;

No defect in her but the blueness of her eyes

likewise, noble birds have blue eyes.

Likewise, the birds of prey have blue eyes
