أَفاطِمَ مَهلاً بَعضَ لَومي وَأَحقادي

أَفاطِمَ مَهلاً بَعضَ لَومي وَأَحقادي

وَلا تَعجَلي إِنَّ الصَحابَةَ كالزادِ

وَلا تَعجَلي إِنَّ الصَحابَةَ كالزادِ

O Fatima, gently—lessen your blame of me and my rancor.

And do not hurry; companionship is like provisions:

يُخَفَّفُ مِنهُ كُلَّما حُلَّ مَنزِلٌ

يُخَفَّفُ مِنهُ كُلَّما حُلَّ مَنزِلٌ

وَلا يُنتَهى عَن بَعضِهِ دونَ إِنفادِ

وَلا يُنتَهى عَن بَعضِهِ دونَ إِنفادِ

Some is taken from it whenever a stopping place is reached,

And none of it is abandoned before it is used up.

أَفاطِمَ وَالمُستَعجِلُ الَبينَ كالَّذي

أَفاطِمَ وَالمُستَعجِلُ الَبينَ كالَّذي

يُنادي بِإِدلاجٍ وَصاحِبُهُ غادى

يُنادي بِإِدلاجٍ وَصاحِبُهُ غادى

O Fatima, one who hastens parting is like one

Who calls for a night departure while his companion sets out at dawn.

فَإِنَّكِ إِن لا تَعجَلي اليَومَ تَظفَري

فَإِنَّكِ إِن لا تَعجَلي اليَومَ تَظفَري

بِحَظِّكِ مِنهُ في جَمالٍ وَإِسدادِ

بِحَظِّكِ مِنهُ في جَمالٍ وَإِسدادِ

For if you do not hurry today, you will gain

Your share of it, with grace and good judgment.

وَإِنَّ الأُلى يَلحونَكِ النُصحَ مِنهُمُ

وَإِنَّ الأُلى يَلحونَكِ النُصحَ مِنهُمُ

فَما مِنهُم داعٍ لِرُشدٍ وَلا هادِ

فَما مِنهُم داعٍ لِرُشدٍ وَلا هادِ

And those who admonish you with their counsel—

None among them calls to sound judgment or offers guidance.

وَإِنَّكِ إِن لا تَترُكي ما يُريبُني

وَإِنَّكِ إِن لا تَترُكي ما يُريبُني

أُصِبكِ بِشَرٍّ ناجِزٍ غَيرَ أَحقادِ

أُصِبكِ بِشَرٍّ ناجِزٍ غَيرَ أَحقادِ

And if you do not abandon what makes me suspicious,

I shall inflict immediate harm on you, not merely harbor grudges.
