May God, Lord of humankind, grant His finest reward

to Abu Maʿiz, as an official and a friend.

He fulfilled my request justly, then carried it through

in good faith, though some people are not truthful.

And when he saw me approaching, he said, “Welcome!

Welcome indeed! Your valley is not narrow!”

You inherited from Dudan glory and eminence,

and are not like one left obscure without attaching himself to others.

Abd Allah built you a house upon a height,

above every valley and road around it.

And the finest treasure hidden in a man at a time of trial

is ancestral glory, when joined with Islam.
