لِتَعلَمَ مِنّي ما تُريدُ وَتَتَّقي

لِتَعلَمَ مِنّي ما تُريدُ وَتَتَّقي

Know this about me, if you desire my companionship,

Learn that if you want my companionship

so you may learn from me what you wish and be on your guard:

To learn from me what you want and be virtuous

شَنِئتُ مِنَ الصُحبان مَن لَستُ زائِلاً

شَنِئتُ مِنَ الصُحبان مَن لَستُ زائِلاً

أُدامِلُهُ دَملَ السِقاءِ المُخرَّقِ

I loathe the companion whom I never cease

I spurn from companionship those whom I won't abandon

placating, as one patches a waterskin full of holes.
