ذَكَرتُI remembered ابنَson of عباسٍAbbas بِبابِat the door of اِبنِson of عامِرٍAmir
وَماand what مَرَّhad passed مِنof عَيشيmy life ذَكَرتُI recalled وَماand what فَضَلremained
I remembered Ibn Abbas at the door of Ibn Amir,
And recalled what had passed of my life and what remained.
أَميرانِtwo emirs كاناthey both were صاحِبيَّmy two companions كِلاهُماboth of them
فَكُلّاso each one جَزاهُmay He requite him اللَهُGod عَنّيon my behalf بِماfor what عَمِلhe did
Two emirs, both of whom were my companions;
So may God requite each on my behalf for what he did.
فَإِنso if كانَit was خَيراًgood كانmay be خَيراًgood جَزاؤُهُhis recompense
وَإِنand if كانَit was شَرّاًevil كانَmay be شَرّاًevil كَماjust as فَعَلhe did
So if it was good, may his recompense be good;
And if it was evil, may it be evil, matching what he did.
