Have you not seen that I regard a promise as a binding obligation?
A man's evasiveness over a promise is, to me, brother to treachery.
وَماand not رَجُلٌa man لاnot يَقتَفيhe follows through بِكَلامِهِon his words
بِموفٍfaithful بِميثاقٍto a covenant عَليهِbinding upon him وَلاnor عَهدِa pledge
And no man who fails to stand by his words
Is faithful to a covenant binding upon him, or to a pledge.

When a man, both kinsman and wrongdoer, is stricken
By adversity, his misfortune dissolves my rancor.
