Consider a man I had not yet tested:

He came to me and said, “Take me as a close friend.”

So I befriended him, then honored him,

Yet gained from him not a date-stone fiber’s worth.

And when I tested him, I found him

A liar in speech, forever begging, and miserly.

So I reminded him, then reproached him

With gentle reproach and gracious words.

But I found him unwilling to make amends,

    And remembering God only rarely.

Am I not justified in bidding him farewell,

And following that with a long estrangement?
