Complaints over Salma have indeed grown earnest; and surely what

they say—if good sense were clear to you—is wiser.

They say: Do not squander your honor, and make provision

for your return, for today is followed by tomorrow.

And beware the angry folk, for

a watch is kept on every road around them.

You are blamed and rebuked each day, yet never seen,

despite the blame, except coming and going around her.

The obstinate eye has brought her to you; and sometimes

the eye shows you what the hand cannot obtain for you.
