أتيتُ الفَيْضَ مُشْتَكِياً زماني

أتيتُ الفَيْضَ مُشْتَكِياً زماني

فأَعْدَاني عليه جُودُ فَيْضِ

فأَعْدَاني عليه جُودُ فَيْضِ

I came to al-Fayd, complaining of my times;

I came to abundance complaining of my time

and Fayd's generosity aided me against them.

But its overflowing generosity turned against it

وفاضتْ كَفُّه بالبذلِ منه

وفاضتْ كَفُّه بالبذلِ منه

كما كَفُّ ابن عيسى ذات غَيْضِ

كما كَفُّ ابن عيسى ذات غَيْضِ

And his hand overflowed with the gifts he gave,

Its palm overflowed with gifts

even as Ibn Isa's hand ran dry.

As did the palm of the son of Jesus in times of dearth
